This is the best start I've had in a while. I started monochromatic with Indian Red and began adding tones afterward. Thought I'd share as I finished preparing the canvas over five months ago. I sat and waited. The other is finished with the base structure. I'll be moving to oils after a layer of gesso. I usually only post new directions in the studio under this blog and this is one. After I finish the five at 24 by 24 I'll be ready for the longer ones. Two currently are dried and ready for a third pass. I'll be glazing soon after. There is one, yet to go into collage stage. I'm psyched to build larger structures based on the Interloper series. I have nothing but great and grand expectations for the creation stage. I only hope they are well received.
After a big sewing push I tend to switch gears. I've started painting again. A little unsure of myself but like riding a bike once, you never forget. On the contrary, I need to label some jars before I start washing brushes in aged medium. I make it every time I start again, because it congeals and layers during the time I am not working in oils. After this show, which I am hoping the scheduling snafu will correct itself, I'll be building canvases in the cold for a bit, then starting on the totemics. I make my collage papers from the photographs I take during the year. Totally organic with a smidge of building structures that I keep till I am inspired. Some of the rest I scour from mom's stash she uses as templates and of course my sketchbooks and odd finds from garage sales, flea markets and tea houses. Not to mention dumpster diving and asking for people's refuse. Yeah, I get that desperate. Anyway, I think I've got an overall tone and approach with what I use. I can keep amassing, but that can get pricey. They are collage company's out there that sell you a pack for $20 -$40. All random stuff you find never. I may start looking for those prize pieces again and/or a trip to the scrap metal yard. Always a find there and that is why I bought airplane shears and invest in metal screws and epoxy. Praise be to the almighty Home Depot. Without which I'd be carting over to Lowe's in another city.
